But with so many details to consider, planning a wedding can be overwhelming. From the venue to the catering, the guest list to the flowers, it's easy to get lost in the details. That's why I’ve put together this guide with five tips to make your wedding day truly unforgettable. In this post, we'll cover the importance of getting clear on your negotiables and non-negotiables, staying organized, selecting the perfect music, prioritizing comfort, and maintaining a positive attitude throughout the day. Whether you're just starting to plan your wedding or you're putting the finishing touches on your big day, these tips will help you create an unforgettable experience that you and your guests will cherish forever. So, let's dive in and explore how you can make your wedding day truly epic!

  1. Get Clear on your Negotiables and Non-negotiables

This has to be on the top of the list because this can make or break your day. If you don’t have an idea of what your negotiables and non-negotiables are, its difficult to understand your true north and what’s important (and not important) to you both.

Every couple is different and every wedding is different. So you must sit down with your partner and discuss what is important, what you value, and what your negotiables and non-negotiables are. Maybe sticking to traditions isn’t important for you both? Maybe its important to have a fun, relaxed yet elegant wedding that’s completely stress free. It’s important to choose what these negotiables and non negotiables are and that they align with who you are as individuals and as a collective.

Some examples of non-negotiables are photographers and celebrants. Perhaps having a videographer is also in that non-negotiable list (very happy face of Tim smiling). Your negotiable list might be to have a band, or a wedding cake, maybe even a bridal party! The choice is yours and I urge you to consider all the things that make you happy and are considered a must-have.

At the end of the day, you have to make your wedding day more suited to you and your partner so that you can have those wonderful memories to look back at. It brings out a better mood, better photos, and better videos as well. If you're doing something on the day that doesn’t bring you joy, consider it a negotiable.

Choosing vendors that align with your vision is paramount to ensuring your wedding day is the best it can be. I can’t stress this enough!

  2. Organisation

Being organized for your wedding day is more than just having a timeline in place. It involves having a clear vision of what you want for your special day and making sure all the necessary arrangements are made well in advance.

The wedding planning process can be overwhelming, however, it's also important to remember that the engagement period is a precious time and shouldn't be overshadowed by the stresses of wedding planning. The last thing I’d want to hear is your being so caught up with the wedding planning, you forget to actually enjoy being engaged! Take this time for you both. I promise it goes quickly!

As an industry expert hot tip, I’d like to let you know of all the weddings I’ve captured - not one has run perfectly on time or without some sort of hiccup. Despite this though, they’ve all been amazing weddings! things are bound to go a little wrong or perhaps run a little late, but what’s important is not letting anything effect the fact, this is your wedding day and nothing will change your mood or attitude! Being organised means being confident that when it comes to your wedding day, you’ve got the structure in place to account for anything! Faith in your vendors to deal with these potential issues and perhaps some extra time to account for things running a little late. Imagine having a bit of extra time up your sleeve on your wedding day to do what you want?

  3. Music

Music is the ultimate vibe-setter on your big day! From getting ready to snapping those amazing portraits, music is an essential component that can make or break the atmosphere. Literally. You won’t find me without my little speaker on a wedding day! I typically have a playlist already created just for you both.

We know it's tempting to think that only those ballin' on a budget can afford a killer band or DJ, but don't sweat it. You don't need to break the bank to make your wedding feel like a million bucks. You can easily upgrade the feel of your wedding by adding the right tunes and playlist. No matter what kind of wedding you're having, be sure to include music throughout your day. Please don’t walk down the aisle to no music or have your guests not have some form of music entertainment while you’re off getting photos. You don't need to splash out on a band or DJ, but make sure you have some beats playing in the background, even if it’s a playlist on Spotify. For me, having a good DJ/ band is a must-have, no matter what!

  4. Be Comfortable

Let's chat about feeling comfy on your big day! I’m not just talking about being at ease in front of the camera, I’m talking about feeling comfortable in every possible way. You want to make sure everything is in the right place, so you can move around with ease and enjoy your day to the fullest.

Ladies, let's talk about that dress. It's a big deal, right? You want it to be comfortable and practical, especially since you'll be wearing it all day long. If it's too big or cumbersome, it might be hard to walk around or manoeuvre. Is that really want you want? Plus, keep in mind the weather - a big dress might get quite dirty or muddy if it's wet outside.

Boys/men/dude’s let’s chat suits, have you considered getting it tailored to fit you perfectly. It might seem like a small thing, but feeling comfy can really impact how much you enjoy your day. Let’s not forget that baggy suits don’t look too great on your photos and videos. Oh, and guys, here's a tip: try on your outfit ahead of time, don't wait until the last minute to put on your shoes, and make sure everything is ready to go. You don't want to be scrambling around on the day of. The amount of times one of the groomsmen or the groom himself hasn’t tried a shirt or the shoes on makes me cry inside a little every time!

  5. Attitude

Your attitude is everything on your wedding day, and it can set the tone for the entire day. No wedding is perfect, and things might not always go according to plan. But if you and your partner have the right mindset, you can handle anything that comes your way with ease!

Your vendors are there to help make your day amazing, but they can't change your attitude. So, start the day with a positive outlook, and let the good vibes flow. We do our best to bring the vibes but nothing kills that like a sour attitude! We want you to have the best day ever, but it's up to you to make it happen. If you start feeling stressed or upset, take a minute to look in the mirror and ask yourself - is this really going to make a difference to my wedding day? Trust me, a little positivity goes a long way!
